The Furniture & Furnishings (Fire & Safety) Regulations 1988 (revised 1989 and 1993) set standards for the fire resistance of domestic upholstered furniture and furnishings.

The majority of upholstered items (sofas, armchairs, beds etc) manufactured after 1988 will comply with the new standards, so by ensuring that all furniture and furnishings you buy or supply bear permanent labels that confirm they adhere to these regulations.
